What is an Apostle?
Simply put, an apostle is one of the ascension gifts mentioned in Eph. 4:8; 11 (apostle, prophet, evangelist, pastor, and teacher.) I liken the ascension gifts to God’s managerial team for the body of Christ. The ascension gifts were given of Christ to the Church prior to sitting at the right hand of the Father (Eph. 4:9-10). The job of an apostle is not only to disciple believers’, but to also equip and train them. To disciple, equip and train the body of Christ enables them to continue the works that Jesus began while He was here on earth, Acts 1:1-2. The ultimate goal is to move the believer to the place of son, (the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ,) and not merely a worker or gifted person.

Ephesians 4:7-13 NIV 7 But to each one of us grace has been given as Christ apportioned it.8 This is why it says: “When he ascended on high, he took many captives and gave gifts to his people.” 9 (What does “he ascended” mean except that he also descended to the lower, earthly regions? 10 He who descended is the very one who ascended higher than all the heavens, in order to fill the whole universe.) 11 So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, 12 to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up 13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.

Matthew 16:18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. 19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY AND CHURCH OF CHRIST!
Hebrews 12:22 But ye are come unto mount Zion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels, 23 To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect,
The Bible tells us that wisdom is the principle thing and in our pursuit and possession of wisdom we must also strive to obtain understanding {Proverbs 4:7}.
The definition of the Church of Christ is one of those issues we strive to gain wisdom and understanding of. We often quote from Matthew 16:18 when referring to the fact that the Lord would be building HIS church. Mind you, many of us don't really consider the fact that HIS church is a literal one. Our/Your church building/location is not the same as HIS Church building/location. Our assemblies are located in the earth, but HIS Church is nestled in Heaven. Psalms 127:1 tells us that unless the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build it. Jesus is building HIS Church! HE alone is building it. John the Baptist repeatedly declares that Jesus has what we need. HE/JESUS shall give us recognition of our new found status/acceptance in HIS CHURCH/BRIDE. More on this later.
A change must be made in our perception of who the Lord is coming back for. Remember, Jesus gave HIMSELF for the Church in which there shall be many members. How important is this particular church now? People are doing their own thing, but if they are not found to be a member of HIS Church when HE comes back then they shall be left. The Lord set up a redemption plan for us as believers. That redemption plan redeems us out of the world, and into the Church. This Church is the one that HE died for and will eventually marry. Your focus now should be on obtaining the wisdom and understanding necessary so that you may obtain the status of one of many within HIS bride/Church {Ephesians 5:30-32}.
HIS Church, according to Hebrews 12:22-23 is the heavenly Jerusalem located in Mount Zion, the city of the living God {Psalms 132:13-16}.
The issue of salvation can only be solved by understanding the prerequisites of becoming a member of HIS Church/Bride. The marriage shall take place, but will you be one among the Church/Bride is the question. We will be discussing this issue in more detail in writings to come. Until then, consider the passage below Revelation 19:7-9.
Revelation 19:7 Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready. 8 And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints. 9 And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me, These are the true sayings of God.
